Digital Migration Database

by the Institute for Palatinate History and Ethnology (IPGV)

With about 300,000 records, the IPGV’s extensive Migration Database covers more than one million migration movements from the 16th century onwards. The Digitale Migrationskartei (Digital Migration Database) now makes this information digitally available to the public, enabling you to research and investigate genealogical connections to the Palatinate comfortably from your home. We wish you a lot of fun doing so!

BETA The project is currently under active development!

What does this mean?
The whole site is under constant development. Therefore, it may change until your next visit: We try to make the database search as intuitive and at the same time as informative as possible, which is why we will continue to improve existing features and add new ones in the future. In this process, changes and sometimes, unfortunately, errors may occur. Further information on this project can be found on our homepage.
Can the Digital Migration Database be used for private or scientific research?
The Digital Migration Database is open to all who are interested, both professional and private researchers. The fact that the site is still under development—apart from the potential changes to the site—has no influence on its use.
Is all the information displayed?
Records which have been uploaded are complete (according to the information gathered in the analogue Migration Database), fully searchable, and displayed in a well-structured way.
Where can I find the source information?
The source information has also been recorded and are displayed in the corresponding category. If no source information is displayed, the entry was probably derived from another index card. In this case, you should note the source information from the person's environment.
Has the entire migration database been digitized?
Currently, the records of the migration database have been digitized up to and including the letter “S”. However, by having also included spouses, there are currently individuals in the Digital Migration Database whose birth names may start with a letter after “S”.
Can I share supplemental information?
As the Digital Migration Database represents a completed project, it is not intended that new entries will be added.
